Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012) Movie Review

Jab Tak Hai Jaan is the last work of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra that has the awesome combination of Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma, AR Rahman and Gulzar… Let’s check out the review of most awaited movie of the last quarter…

Story: Major Samar Anand (Shah Rukh Khan), a bomb-diffusor specialist of the Indian Army has a past that forces him to battle with life and death every day. Known as ‘The Man Who Cannot Die’, he meets Discovery Channel reporter Akira who is searching a topic for her first solo project and she gets his diary which contains secrets of his past. Where and what does this all lead to? What is it that Samar has been hiding since the past 10 years? Get your answers by watching ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’.

Performances: No second thoughts Anushka Sharma is one of the main assets of the film. The moment she enters the screen film gets a sudden positive start & everyone will like her character instantly. Shahrukh Khan did this tailor made character with ease of perfectionist. Samar character will receive a lot of sympathy just like his character in Veer Zaara. Katrina Kaif truly sizzles as Meera. She delivers a good performance and walks step-to-step with Shah Rukh Khan and has an excellent screen presence. . It’s still hard to believe Yash Chopra was 80 when he shot these romantic episodes in Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

TechnicalitiesStory is simple and neat. The flash back in the first-half is narrated through the Samar’s diary. Yash Chopra could have made the script a crisp one. Because of the nature of story, this film went on a slow pace. This makes the people get bored at times. The highlight of this film is the music and background score by A R Rahman. Another remarkable aspect of this film is camera work. It’s simply superb. Anil Mehtahas done an extraordinary work for this film. Locations are marvelous. Choreography is byVaibhavi Merchant and it is a treat to watch the song ‘Challa’ beautifully picturised on SRK, shot in London. Also, ‘Ishq Shava’ is a song to look out for as the choreography is excellent. The dialogues are a plus point and keep the romantic mood intact. Editingcould have been crispier.

Survi Verdict: The positives of this film are SRK, Anushka, songs, Yash Chopra’s mark and cinematography. The negatives of the film are thin story, length, editing, dragged climax and predictable narration. First half of the film is entertaining. The second half is dragged and makes you feel bored. A simple story can be told in a simple manner. But the director used every possible technique to insert the Romance and sentiment in the film. On the whole, Jab Tak Hai Jaan is worth a watch movie for those who still believe in love at first sight & Yash Chopra.

Thanks you Yash Chopra… Will Miss You….
